Professional Biography:

Onome Ovwori (pronounced Owori) a Jazz artist, was born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa. He embraced the love of music at the age of six when his Dad presented him with a keyboard as a Christmas gift. And although he is skillful at a number of musical instruments such as drums and bass guitar, he has fully mastered the art of playing the keyboard. From his early beginnings till date he has gone on to advance his career by playing in churches, live concerts with some of Africa’s best talents in the industry, and other performances.

Some of Onome’s collaborations include a recording with "The Apostles" in Lagos,Nigeria titled “Art of the Apostles”. He also played with Nathaniel Bassey on the New Jazz Stew Project album called “Revelation”. In addition he has been privileged to perfrom with Sammy Okposo, Esse Agesse, Anne Inyang, Daddy Showkey, Mike Aremu, Kunle Ayo, Tunde and Wunmi Obe, American artistes like Rose Harper of Shekinah Glory Ministries and Daniel Winans and played alongside Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Helen Baylor, and Lionel Peterson. Onome has also worked with budding artistes as a songwriter and producer along with Tim Shider for their upcoming projects.

Although he has worked on numerous musical projects, his preferred genre is a mix of contemporary afro jazz, world beat, gospel and R&B. This unique blend of musical flavors comes alive in Onome’s debut album, “Time” which was released April 24th, 2009. This album includes performances by Gregory Kilpatrick, D’Amadeus, Dennis Hilliman, Jumbo Ane, Jim Farkas and Isaac “RealEyez Mystic” Odusanya. This independent work is reflective of his admiration for Ramsey Lewis, Wayman Tisdale and Joe Sample. Onome was also privileged to meet Lenny LeBlanc a prolific songwriter, artiste and musician who he has admired for years.

Onome attended the Delta State University, Nigeria and graduated with Bachelors in Mass Communication. In addition to that he attended the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) in 2003. He currently serves as Music Director at his local church, and has been at that position for seven years. Onome lives in New Jersey with his wife and children.

& Electrical Engineer at Obafemi Awolowo
University, ‘Gbenga has completed
Executive Education Management Training Programs at Lagos Business School, New
York Group for Technology Transfer, Oxford
University, Harvard
University and Stanford
University. His consulting
experience includes assignments completed for numerous institutions, including
Microsoft, Harvard University,
United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Res
Publica, Computer Aid International, Heinrich Boll Foundation and the
International Telecommunications Union.



Beyond Nigeria, ‘Gbenga has consulted and made presentations in various
countries, including Austria, Canada, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, Ghana, Greece,
India, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland,
Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, United Kingdom and United States. He is a member of the
United Nations Committee of eLeaders on Youth and ICT and Archbishop Tutu
Leadership Fellow; and he was Nigeria's
first Information Technology Youth Ambassador. He was the Vice Chair of United
Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s African
Technical Advisory Committee (ATAC), voluntary adviser to numerous youth-led
nonprofits and pioneer Program Manager of Lagos
Digital Village.
In 2006, he was appointed as the youngest member of the Nigerian Presidential
Task Force on the Restructuring of the Nigerian Information Technology and
Telecommunications Sectors. ‘Gbenga is also an author and regular feature on
some of Nigeria’s popular television shows.





 

In recognition of his dynamic efforts, 'Gbenga has been honoured with the
2008 OAU Ife EEESS Distinguished Alumni award, 2008 FGC Idoani Alumni award,
2007 Nigerian Youth Leadership award, 2007 The Future Youth Advocacy award,
2006 International Telecommunications Union YES Scholarship award, 2006 Ondo
State Sunshine award, 2006 The Future Best Use of Technology award, 2005
Stockholm Challenge Champion honour, 2004 NiPRO Excellence in Information
Technology award, 2003 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) in Nigeria
award, 2002 JCI Ten Outstanding Great Ife Alumni (TOGA) award, 2002 Journalists’
Frontier of Technology in Nigeria award, and the 2001 International
Telecommunications Union’s African Youth Fellowship award. ‘Gbenga Sesan has
been profiled as one of the 35 Icons of ICT in Nigeria and he keeps a personal
